Clipture Privacy Policy

Data we collect

Clipture never sends screenshots, annotations, clipboard contents, file lists, hardware identifiers, account identifiers, or diagnostics to TalkApe or third-party analytics services. When optional analytics is enabled, the app sends allow-listed feature-use counts, app version, distribution channel, operating system and major version, interface language, system region, chip architecture, and random identifiers for this app installation and app session. You can turn this off at any time in Settings; turning it off also removes the local analytics installation identifier.

The server immediately converts the random installation and session identifiers into keyed one-way hashes. It stores daily pseudonymous counters and session/cohort records used to calculate active installations, retention, and feature funnels. It does not store the raw identifiers, IP addresses in the analytics database, filenames, application names, window titles, screenshot dimensions, or captured content. As with ordinary website requests, short-lived server security logs may contain an IP address.

The Clipture website uses a small first-party analytics request to count page views, sessions, downloads, demo plays, and sponsorship checkout actions. It records the page pathname, coarse referral or campaign source, browser language, time zone, region supplied by the browser locale, device class, operating system, browser family, and random visitor and session identifiers. The identifiers are HMAC-hashed before storage; query strings, page content, full referring URLs, and IP addresses are not stored in the analytics database. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track are respected.

The app does not require an account for capture features and does not use advertising or tracking SDKs. If you sponsor through the direct version or sync an App Store purchase, Clipture stores your email and entitlement records only for purchase fulfillment, recovery, and fraud prevention.

Local app data

Clipture automatically keeps the original image and annotation layers for the latest 100 screenshots opened in its editor, so you can edit them again from Capture History. You can delete individual entries there. Clipboard history, when enabled, is stored in Clipture's local application storage on the current device.

Screen recordings are encoded locally. A temporary recording file is removed after you save it or cancel the save panel. You can change clipboard retention and storage limits, clean up old entries, or clear clipboard history in Settings. Uninstalling Clipture and removing its application container deletes remaining local app data.

System permissions

On Mac, Screen Recording lets Clipture read pixels only when you explicitly start a screenshot or recording. Captured pixels are processed locally and are not uploaded or shared unless you explicitly export or share the result. In the direct-download edition, the limited PostEvent permission shown by macOS under Accessibility is used only when you start automatic scrolling or direct paste; Clipture does not read or control another app's accessibility hierarchy. The Mac App Store edition does not request this permission. On Windows, Clipture uses the standard desktop capture and input APIs for the corresponding features. System permissions can be changed at any time.

Purchases

Mac App Store purchases are processed by Apple. Direct sponsorship payments are processed securely by Stripe. Clipture stores the payment provider, transaction identifier, email, and entitlement so a direct license can be issued and recovered. Clipture never receives full card details.

Children and international use

Clipture is a general-purpose productivity utility. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children or transfer screenshot and clipboard content between countries.

Changes and contact

If Clipture changes what optional analytics collects, this policy and the in-app disclosure will be updated before the change takes effect. Questions can be sent to privacy@talkape.net.
