CleanShot X is a broad commercial capture suite with screenshots, audio-capable recording, cloud sharing, and additional production tools. Clipture combines screenshots, editable annotation history, scrolling capture, pins, local clipboard history, and lightweight MP4/GIF region recording.
Choose CleanShot X when audio recording, hosted sharing, video editing, or its wider production workflow is essential. Choose Clipture when you want a smaller free utility whose capture data stays local.
Capture and annotation workflow
Clipture combines window detection and area selection in one shortcut. It can select several real windows with Shift, add shared padding and shadow, and exclude desktop content between the windows.
After capture, Clipture provides shapes, arrows, text, mosaic, and numbered notes. It does not currently try to reproduce every editing or sharing feature in CleanShot X.
Pricing and data handling
Every current Clipture feature is available without a subscription or account. Screenshots and clipboard history remain on the Mac unless you explicitly export or share them.
