Where the two apps overlap
Both apps are designed around fast macOS screenshots, window recognition, annotations, scrolling capture, and pinning an image above other windows. If these are the only requirements, the best choice is usually the interface and keyboard workflow that feels more natural on your Mac.
Clipture uses one smart capture entry point for window, area, multi-window, and full-screen capture. Its default shortcuts are Control-Command-A for capture and Shift-Command-V for clipboard history, and both are editable.
What Clipture adds
Clipture includes searchable local clipboard history for text, images, and file lists in the same menu-bar app. It also supports Shift-based multi-window composition that excludes unselected desktop content.
All current capture and clipboard features are free to use. The optional one-time sponsorship removes occasional reminders but does not unlock a separate feature tier.
When Xnip may still be the better choice
Xnip is an established product with its own mature behavior and user preferences. Existing Xnip users who depend on a particular annotation style, export integration, or familiar shortcut layout may have little reason to change.
Clipture is worth considering when you want capture and clipboard history together, prefer a unified smart-capture interaction, or need multi-window composition. Testing both with your actual workflow is more useful than comparing feature counts alone.
